I was only there once, in July 2011. But I had a very nice meal and they were very nice to me. I sat on the ground floor, towards the back. it was pretty busy for lunch that day, and yes alot of them were tourists, but I observed a nice, professional staff who seemed to be pleasant to everyone who came in. The basement was much less crowded, but it also was very nice.

I am only in Vienna once every few years, but I definitely plan to go back to this restaurant.

The food here is very nice - quite authentic and reasonable servings. I especially enjoy the risotto and the pizzas are also quite nice. Service is a bit spotty but reasonable. The prices are probably a little higher than your average Vienna pizzeria.

Very delicious italian food. The best I've eaten in a while for a reasonable price and in a quiet and calm location for central Vienna.
Recommended, however the service is, as already mentioned by others, rather poor as the waiters are rather hectic and impolite (-1 star).

Thanks Rcke for your kind words. We are new to town and are still confused about what an appropriate tip amount for dinner should be. We have been told that 5% should be enough since staff are paid a salary, please correct me if I am wrong. But, for example, in NYC waitstaff are paid very little basepay (usually around $2-3) and rely on tip for most of their income. So, it is appropriate to expect 15-18% but never more than that...usually double the tax on the bill. So, when I paid the bill and she casually left my change on the table and left, I was left shocked but composed. We have class and are not going to argue about €2 Euros but it was the principle of it all. I would have given her that extra money or more if we thought she had deserved it, like the first time we ate there we tipped 20% not realizing what their basepay was...but the food and service was awesome at that time, something I can agree with this time around. I drop my rating to 1-star for bad behavior...too bad.

Unfortunately such a "bad habit" is happening too often in vienna, especially in italian restaurants.
A VIENNA TAX does not exist, it is a charming form of taking away money from the customer. We are not in the US, where the service charge has to be added to the invoice. The restaurant owner don't do it, so please as a viennese citizen I have to apology for this unbelievable behavior of the waiter.

Very good food, never had a bad culinary experience.

The problem with restaurants with great food is that other aspects, like service, pales in comparison. Our food was delicious as it's always been, having ate there many times in the past but usually choosing to go only on special occasion. The waitress was nice enough but slightly "snooty." When the check came, the total being 40.50€, I thought 43€ would be an appropriate amount based on the level of service. To my surprise, 45€ had been taken out from the 100€ given. It's "Vienna tax," I told my wife vowing never to return.

Bottom line, great food bad service. So to be fair, 3 stars.
