Very good Japanese restaurant. Enjoyed the sushi and ambience, plus service was excellent.

This is by far the best sushi that I have had in all of Austria (and is in the top 5 of all time). All of the food has a wonderfully fresh taste and it is prepared with an eye for detail that makes even its simple plating and presentation seem like a work of (modern) art.

The family that owns the restaurant is very friendly and if you let on that you are an English speaker there is an almost certain possibility that the son will come out and talk with you about almost any topic (although he has a penchant for politics). There are two seating options, regular table seating and a somewhat kitschy floor seating for up to six people. You can easily find Sushi Benkei by taking the O line from the Landstrasse station.

This is always a must stop for me whenever I am in Vienna, but make sure that you call ahead first as their posted hours are a bit irregular and they don't always stick to them (I can't tell you my disappointment to have escaped from other things in Vienna only to find out that they were not open on that day).

For anyone interested in Austrian literature, the location, at Ungargasse 6, is also the setting for Ingeborg Bachmann's novel, Malina.

Went there yesterday for lunch. I had the Gyoza menu with miso soup and melon. The miso soup was delicious, the Gyoza were, too, although they were slightly burned at the edges. My friend had the Tori-Don menu and said it was delicious. The owner seems to have learned German (at least a bit). :)
