Reall nice traditional brunch in a perfect area. Friendly and fast service. Fresh pressed orange juice, hot chocolate that you make yourself with a chocolate lolly and hot milk. The waiters bring you a standard plate and then you ask them to bring you again whatever you want - so it's a "all you can eat" (eggs, bread, vegetables, Griesskoch, ham, salami, cottage cheese, jam, croissants, ....) Nice old style ambiance.

Very mediocre food and service, but what a great location!! If you wish to relax with a coffee or a beer and watch the Viennese world pass by, this is a stupendously great place. If you want good food and good service, go elsewhere.

If not for the fantastic location and the very nice, shaded front arcade to sit, this would get 2 stars at most.

Food is good, if you like Schnitzel, sausages, and other high-calory food. Prices are more than okay and I love that you - as otherwise usual in Vienna - do not have to pay for ketchup, mustard, and changes on the plates. If you are short on money, you do not even need to pay for drinks as there is a "juice fountain" hidden next to the bar where you can drink for free.

i just had the worst café experience in vienna so far, and it was in this place.
    geez, where to start.
we went there because all punsch-standln at rathausplatz had already closed, and sat on a table.
    time passed.
    a waiter went by.
    time passed.
another waiter went by, saying that his waiter colleague would be with us in a minute.
    time passed.
after about 20 minutes, in which we tried to convince at least 4 waiters which all told us that either ours wasnt their table to serve (or at least take away the empty glasses left behind by whoever was there before us...) or told us that the guy responsible would be with us in a minute.
well, sooner or later (later, actually), a waiter came, and told us that it was our fault that no one came, since we were on a table so secluded from the rest of the café. (stupid f*ck)
i told him that i do not feel as if i had to apologize for them setting up tables in a manner that they cant see them anymore.
he took the old glasses (still there..) but didn't take our order.
appr. 5 minutes later another waiter came, taking our order.
at least 15 minutes later, two of us (four) got a glass of what was supposed to be a chai latte, but instead was a glass of hot milk plus a teabag. the greater plan was revealed: by the time the teamilk was steeped we would get our coffee to go with, so that all of us would be able to drink at the same time? maybe throw in a prayer for the house?
well, later the coffee came, and looked like it actually was made on time, but then forgotten and alone left at the bar for the waiter to be picked up, who did nothing but tell the poor cups that he wasnt responsible for them, and that his colleague would be with them shortly.
well, after an hour we had our teas and coffees, and after leaving wont ever return to the café einstein.

    • This is a very realistic description of what's happening there again and again...
I can not understand this kind of management by chaos.

pretty unsophisticated food, but nice if you can catch a seat outside during the summer!

Decent, unexceptional Austrian food. Their outside space is under an arcade, making it a good place to eat when the sun is beating down.

they have no great but okayish continental cuisine, and they have beer. it is nice to sit outside, but can be really annoying when there is much traffic. a place where you can have more than just beer, but not much more.

Far less sophisticated than its name might appear to suggest. Go there for some cheap late-night Schnitzel and beer (until 2am, or midnight on Sundays), as long as you don't mind mainstream radio playing in the background.
