Funny place I would say. A little posh but when you spend there more time, you can see that it's pretty old. I have been there only for a coffee and it was a normal one. Nothing special. I saw that you can have there pretty nice breakfast so next time will go there and try it.

Pretty bad experience. I think we paid over €15,- for items we took from the breadbasket that was brought to us unordered, without letting us now beforehand how much we had to pay for this, if at all.
Food, medium to low quality. I do like the interior.
But I've had much better food in all the other places I ate, without the feeling of being severely ripped off.

This Cafe is almost consistently busy yet has never really attracted me, but a friend suggested we meet up here last night for a meal. I found the service to be a little curt, and the meals were reasonable, but nothing exceptional. I did find my schnitzel to be a tad oily but that is not that uncommon in Vienna (in my experience). The Cafe is also not extremely modern/touched up, but that is also common for Viennese cafes -- regardless, I could not rate it that highly because of the general service, smoke, and ambience. Nevertheless, it was still quite busy when we went so I guess it remains a popular venue and may appeal to others.

it's ok for drinking sessions in the smoking area or for waiting for somebody's train; don't expect it to be stylish but: the worse a viennese "Café" looks the better the audience

At some times very busy and as Austrian waiters and waitresses are not dependant on tips the service quality varies. The coffee is not good quality, but a melange is alright (avoid an espresso). The atmosphere is original. Smokers and non-smokers are seperated. Food is coffee house quality. If you want a standard latte you might prefer a standard american style chain shop. That's not what this is.

I was here with my family and then wished I had never walked in here. Cafe Westend = horrible service, and over-priced greasy food. Smells like smoke and the interior looks depressing. I truly hope the owner reads all these poor reviews and finally straightens things out.

I've been here several times and everytime has been amongst my worst coffeeshop experiences. Ever. Food is atrocious. Drinks are blah. Waiters are dicks (yes it's a typical viennese thing and that's fine but this is my list of what i don't like ;). I was even there twice on the same day and tried to order the same things 3 hours later on a Saturday and suddenly this new (more friendly than the last) waiter said YES they do have hot chocolate.. but it tastes like shit and costs way too much for badly made instant hot chocolate.

I think because they are near the Westbahnhof/U3/U6 they just assume they will always have plenty of guests coming in regardless of quality, but i strongly recommend: if you are in the area and need food/drinks, do whatever is in your power to stay away from here, even if you have to go to a casino bar!!!!!!! ;)

I there have been from few days and I must say that the only thing that I liked is the water (3.20€ the price that I have paid for a bottle from 0.33cl)!!!!

I have asked an omelet with contour of potatoes and salad. The omelet was acceptable but the potatoes were soaked in a disgusting sauce.

When they have brought us the bill, we have discovered that have made us pay the salsines of ketchup and mayonnaise that we had not ordered and eaten and besides they have made us pay two croissants and one more pretzel, to 1.85€ each!!!!!!!I don't recommend it to anybody!!!!Bye

A typical Viennese coffee house, the Westend is situated directly opposite the Westbahnhof train station, and I guess this means they don't have to try very hard to attract patrons. The flair is there (non-Viennese readers: this means grumpy waiters and somewhat smoky), and it's comfortable enough, but the food is nothing to write home about, and the coffee is actually pretty bad.
It's okay for quick get-togethers, when its location near both the U3 and U6 subways is advantageous. For all other purposes it's pricey and not on par with the district's other offerings.

I can't believe how run down this place looks these days. It used to be my goto cafe in my younger years, now it seems to be a smoke filled and uncomfortable place filled with annoying people. At least in the evening. The food is good though.

Conveniently located right across from Vienna's main train terminal, Westbahnhof, Cafe Westend is your typical turn-of-the-century, Viennese coffee house offering traditional dishes, snacks, pastries and a slew of coffees and drinks. Non-smokers beware - this is Philip Morris territory. Another foreboding: order "just a coffee" and prepare to meet your maker! The Viennese appreciate their coffee and expect specificity. • Im Westend kannst ja wohl nicht gewesen sein, datrifft die Beschreibung einfach nicht zu.
Btw, the main train terminal is not yet ready. It's under construction, will be at location former Südbahnhof!!
