This hotel is enormous (7 floors, 347 rooms, 22 suites, 13 meeting rooms, 15,123 sq ft of total meeting space). According to their promotional literature this hotel was previously used for housing soldiers training in Vienna and that accounts for the sheer number of rooms. To give you a rough idea of the scale, the ice machines are only on odd numbered floors, including the first floor which is not the ground floor. In order to get ice to my room I would have to leave my room on the fourth floor at the end of the hall, not the extreme end, but down there, and then walk for 2 full minutes down the hall and stairs in one direction. The number of room can be a huge boon to travelers savvy enough to check rates frequently as there are often unsold rooms available for last minute deals especially if you have the option to pay in US Dollars as many of these deals are sent out to American based online travel discounters.

The hotel itself certainly deserves its 4 star rating. It is everything that you would expect from a 4 star hotel and the level of friendliness and professionalism displayed by the staff are excellent. The location is also excellent for those returning to Vienna or who may have less interested in seeing the Ringstraße and the city center. It is only a few stops down the O line from the Landstrasse station (from which you can get to any of the famous attractions of Vienna via subway) and it is only blocks away from the Belvedere (and Südbahnhof), the University of Music and Art, and the best, in my opinion, Sushi in all of Vienna at Sushi Benkei at Ungargasse 6.

Despite all its positive aspects there are some fairly obnoxious points nibble away at the overall experience. Internet is not free, in fact it is some of the most expensive in almost any European hotel that I have stayed at (almost 30 Euro per day). Comically, they do also offer metered dial up access for those international travelers who bring their 10+ year old laptops with them. Phone calls are also costly and even local calls are metered. In a world of global cell phones and W-Lan cards none of this should weigh too heavily on a potential travelers mind, but the continued presence of a dial-up option and such expensive internet shows a hotel that has adopted very slowly to some advances in technology.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again. It makes a great place to explore the wonderful Wien Mitte/Landstrasse quarter of Vienna.
